Homemade Ice Cream & Rootbeer at Clearwater Park

Welcome Alex Burkett, guest blogging for Discover Hartville this month! He is the Guest Experience Director for Clearwater Park. Did you know they make their own ice cream and rootbeer? Read on to learn all about it!

HARTVILLE, OHIO has long been known for its tight-knit community, small businesses and homemade products. Growing up in Hartville and Lake Township all my life has been a blessing and I love showing visitors and guests all the unique offerings we have to offer.

Perhaps one of the best kept secrets in town, is the Homemade Ice Cream & Rootbeer being made at Clearwater Park by Mert and Charlene Yoder, the owners. I’ve had the privilege of working at Clearwater Park more than 4 seasons and the homemade products are some of the best!

Clearwater Park has been in operation since 1947 as a swimming pool and waterpark. Did you know that the local community in Hartville built Clearwater Park as a community center for families during World War II? Pretty cool, right! In 2013, Clearwater Park began operating as a full-service, luxury camping resort as a part of Akron-Canton Jellystone Park. Swimming, mini-golf, planned activities, Yogi Bear character visits, and other amenities are included in your cabin, campsite, and tent site stay.

After numerous requests for frozen treats to enjoy at the pool or while camping, homemade ice cream and rootbeer were added to the menu and they instantly became a huge hit with guests. Fresh ingredients and homemade ice cream bases means never cutting corners or quality. The same applies to the rootbeer which is made fresh, on-site in small batches.

Here are a few of the amazing flavor profiles developed by Charlene Yoder, the master ice cream maker:

  • Charbucks: Coffee Ice Cream, Salted Caramel Swirl, and Chocolate Chips.
  • Muddy Paws: Chocolate Ice Cream, Brownie Chunks, and Peanut Butter Cups.
  • Gold Rush: Cookie Dough Ice Cream, Chocolate Chips, Peanut Butter Cups, and Salted Caramel Swirl.

The entire flavor library is much larger, and different classic flavors and new creations rotate in and out throughout the season.

Homemade treats in Hartville, Ohio are always amazing, and what better way to enjoy them, then during the summer heat? Stop by and check out the flavors for yourself, or better yet, try the rootbeer and ice cream together in a rootbeer float!

We would love to have you stop by, say hello to our team, and enjoy our homemade treats this summer!
