Get to Know the Lake Township Historical Society

It’s Lake Township’s Bicentennial! To celebrate, we have invited Lake Township Historical Society’s curator, Steve Espenschied, to write in throughout the year to share local history and information on upcoming Bicentennial events. Enjoy!

Lake Township Historical Society founded in 1994 for the purpose of preserving the rich history of Lake Township. The Society preserves all forms of documents, photos, family history, family collections and artifacts. For 21 years LTHS has been a part of the Community of Lake Township and we hope to continue to provide the same service as we have in the past.

LTHS One room school house and museum

We operate a historic one-room schoolhouse, restored in 2000, and a museum, former Greentown Library, donated by Don and Mary Myers.

Steven Espenschied, Curator/Founder is always busy handling the large volume of artifacts, photos and documents, to create displays in both buildings describing the history of our past.  We are always looking for new ideas.

Our artifact building is overloaded with historical items and we do need better facilities to handle our future growth and closer to the Museum.
LTHS Artifact building and storageMembership in the society helps provide a small portion of our income to provide the many “free events” we offer through out the year. We also seek grants for larger projects and special events.

For more information about LTHS, to join/renew your membership, volunteer, contribute financially, or provide a special service to the society please check LTHS’s website and contact one of the trustees.

The next meeting for the Bicentennial Committee will be on January 11th at 5:30 in the Hospitality Room at Comfort Suites Hartville. All interested in helping with festivities are welcome.
