An Evening in the Village 2016

An Evening in the Village 2016

The 19th annual An Evening in the Village will be held Sunday, December 4th from 4:30-7pm in Historic Downtown Hartville.

Many family memories will be made when kids watch Santa arrive by fire truck to kick off the event. Crafts, barrel train rides, and story time in the train car will keep them busy all evening.

2016-tree-in-fieldThe Christmas tree in the square will be lit at 5:00pm by Ruth Sturgill and Craig Wellspring in honor of Lake Township’s Bicentennial. Donated by the Brott Family, this tall beauty comes from the former farm of the late Dr. Richard Werstler, an avid supporter of the Lake Township Historical Society.

Following the lighting, choirs from Hartville Church of the Brethren, The Church Upon the Rock, and Lake High School Reflections will perform. At 5:30pm choirs will take a break so visitors can make their way to the south end of Prospect Ave. Here a NEW event, the Ugly Sweater Contest, will take place at the tiny house. Cash prizes will be awarded for the most creative tops. Wear your most creative top and bring a breakfast item for the Lake Twp FISH food pantry to enter. A collection box will be available for all visitors to donate. Most needed items are soup, spaghetti sauce, and cleaning products.

COMMUNITY ART PROJECT
Also new this year, wooden trees painted for the 2016 Community Art Project will make their debut decorating downtown for the holidays. Led by artists from Modern Vintage, 30 trees were painted at the Craft Around the Block Second Saturday festival in August. This project was made possible with sponsorship from Hartville Hardware, Nationwide Insurance/Dave Varner Agency, A Niche in Time, Hartville Barber Shop, Guy Hufstetler- State Farm Agent, Artistic Expressions, MJ Miller & Co CPAs, and Hartville Travel.

COOKIE CONTEST
Drop off a dozen cookies between 4:30 and 5:30pm at Village Hall. Adult and children category winners will be awarded prizes. There is no fee to enter.

SILENT AUCTION
Place your bid on over a dozen gift baskets and decorated trees donated by area businesses from 4-6pm. Half of proceeds are used to put on An Evening in the Village. The other half is donated to a local organization. Hartville’s new police K9 unit was selected for 2016. Be sure to say hi to K9 Officer Bill and Officer Worthy at the event!
